Submission requirements

We invite global scholars in grades 9 through 12, as well as college students, to submit original works within the following categories: fiction, nonfiction, analytical writing, philosophy, and sociology. Submissions must adhere to the specified word limits for each subcategory. Each of the five genres explores one of the five Unisted Nations Inner Development Goals, which encompass twenty-three unique skillsets designed to equip individuals with the capacity to address complex challenges and write with awareness.

Participants are encouraged to demonstrate a perceptive understanding of their chosen genre and align their work with the Inner Development Goal and the relevant skillset they select.

That being said, entrants must include a 300-word maximum description accompanying their submission that details how their work reflects the IDG and its associated skillset, as applied within their chosen genre.

Any piece of original writing (be it in-class, casual, or academic) has the capacity to be submitted, provided that it aligns with one of the 5 genres.

Submissions will be evaluated based on academic merit, originality, depth, engagement, language proficiency, and clarity of authorial intent, as well as their alignment with the chosen genre and corresponding Inner Development Goal. Judges will also consider the entrant’s age, adherence to the word limit, and the written description outlining how the work aligns with the selected IDG and skillset.

A small group of shortlisted entrants will advance to the final round of evaluation. All shortlisted participants will receive monetary rewards (amount to be determined) and, additionally, (to-be-decided: a complimentary mentorship session with an expert in the United Nations Inner Development Goals and a writing professor). These shortlisted entrants will be assessed by professors with expertise in their respective genres. A select group of finalists will receive the grand prize honors, including a monetary reward (amount to be determined). Furthermore, all entrants (to-be-determined: will receive a certificate of participation from the United Nations Inner Development Goals).
